Easy DIY activities for Toddlers (3-5 years old)

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) activities, if properly planned, can be helpful in building a child's self-esteem and autonomy. DIY activities encourage to cultivate the skills of innovativeness, and thinking power in kids, especially of 3-5 years of age.

DIY activities not only keep the children busy but also utilise their skills and creativity that they already possess. It also results in better brain functioning. In addition, many experts state that allowing a child for a free play also results in a better attitude and improved academic performance. Right DIY activities also help in improving a child's emotion and psychological response.

Try these two EASY DIY ACTIVITIES FOR TODDLERS (3-5 years old)

1. Collage making from Torn Paper

A collage is a piece of art which is composed of numerous materials like torn papers, newspapers, photographs, etc. This art is attached to a background which is usually a plain paper. As kids of this age love tearing paper and newspaper and ranks 'super-talented ' in this activity, hence it is good if this skill can be utilised to shape out their creativity.

Just follow the simple steps and your kid can understand the value of the torn paper. This activity can bring out the creativity from your kid's heart.

a. Draw any fruit/animal on a sheet of paper. I have drawn an Apple.

b. Take any bright colour sheet of paper (preferably a waste sheet, so that it can be utilised). As my image was an Apple, hence I took a red colour sheet of paper from an old magazine. You can choose according to your image.

c. Ask your kid to start tearing this sheet into the small pieces.

d. Take any good adhesive and start pasting these small pieces of paper on your drawn image. Once you both are done, it's a time to appreciate and applaud as your collage is ready! Yayyy. :D :D

Do not forget to appreciate your child's efforts, it gives them motivation.

2. Play Dough Activity

Play Dough activity is helpful in developing fine motor skills. It is great for strengthening muscle tone in little hands – squishing, squashing, rolling, flattening. Playdough also helps in developing a child's muscles.

There are a number of good brands in the market who caters to this need. However, make sure the dough should be child-friendly and composed of non-toxic materials. Ideally, this activity is good for children who are 3+ years of age.

The activity is quite simple yet gives lots of fun to the children. Choose the colour of the clay and try making different shapes and designs. Encourage your child to do some good creativity using this clay dough.

My elder one has made the following and was so happy to see her work. Sharing a few of them with you all.

I hope these easy DIY activities for toddlers (3-5 years old) will be of great help for mothers. Both of these DIY Activities will keep the child engaged in a good way as he/she is learning something good.
